Phuoc An Port: A Key Player in Vietnam’s Logistics Expansion
The logistics sector in Vietnam is undergoing a significant transformation with the recent operation of Phuoc An Port, the largest seaport in Dong Nai. With a total investment of 20,000 billion VND and a strategic location along the Thi Vai River, the port is set to significantly enhance trade connectivity between Vietnam and global markets. This new seaport is not just an infrastructure development but a key player in the region’s logistics sector, positioned to boost both local and international trade.
Strategic Location and Infrastructure of Phuoc An Port
Located in Nhon Trach District, Phuoc An Port spans an impressive 735 hectares, which is divided into two main sections:
- The Port Area covers 180 hectares, featuring six container berths and four general cargo berths. It can accommodate vessels up to 60,000 DWT and has an annual capacity of 6.5 million tons.
- The Logistics and Industrial Services Area spans 550 hectares and includes warehousing, transshipment facilities, and a comprehensive transportation network, ensuring smooth connectivity with industrial zones across Dong Nai and the Southern Economic Region.
Phuoc An Port is integrated into the Ho Chi Minh City – Dong Nai – Ba Ria-Vung Tau seaport system, which has been part of Vietnam’s national port development plan since 2005. This strategic location within the larger logistics network enhances its role in supporting global and regional trade.

Phuoc An Port’s First International Cargo Shipment
On February 13, 2024, Phuoc An Port welcomed its first international cargo vessel, the M/V MSC BEIRA IV from Mediterranean Shipping Company (MSC). The ship carried 1,300 TEUs of textile and fashion goods, marking a significant milestone in the port’s operational journey. This shipment signals that Phuoc An Port is now capable of handling large international cargos, reducing logistics costs and improving global trade accessibility. According to Truong Hoang Hai, CEO of Phuoc An Port, this event opens a new gateway for Dong Nai’s export-import activities, further integrating Vietnam into global trade routes.

Capacity and Future Expansion Plans
Phuoc An Port has ambitious growth targets for the future:
- 2024: Expected annual handling capacity of 0.2 million TEUs.
- 2030: Projected to handle 1.18 million TEUs annually.
- Future Expansion: The port plans to expand to 2.2 million TEUs and 4 million tons of general cargo.
The first phase of development is currently underway, with two operational berths, and the port is expected to be fully completed by 2026.

Advanced Port Facilities and Technologies
Phuoc An Port is equipped with advanced machinery and technologies to optimize its operations:
- 4 quay cranes and 9 yard cranes for efficient cargo handling.
- An automated container tracking system for real-time updates and monitoring.
- Cold storage facilities for perishable goods.
- Dedicated customs clearance and security screening zones for faster processing.
Additionally, the newly constructed 319 – Phuoc An Road (5.8 km) enhances connectivity to major industrial hubs in the region, improving the port’s integration into the broader logistics network.

Boosting Dong Nai’s Logistics and Economic Growth
The operation of Phuoc An Port is expected to bring several benefits to the region:
- Attracting global shipping lines, positioning the port as a key player in global trade.
- Reducing congestion at Cat Lai Port in Ho Chi Minh City.
- Increasing Dong Nai’s customs revenue from both imports and exports.
- Supporting regional industrial growth and attracting foreign investment.
With a skilled workforce of 300 employees, Phuoc An Port is set to become a central logistics hub for Southern Vietnam, optimizing trade efficiency and supply chain management.

Conclusion
With its strategic location, modern infrastructure, and robust expansion plans, Phuoc An Port is poised to transform the logistics landscape in Vietnam. As it scales its operations, it will strengthen Vietnam’s position in global trade, contribute to the country’s maritime economy, and provide significant support to the economic development of the Southern region.
