Orient Overseas Container Line (OOCL) celebrated the naming of its twelfth 24,188 TEU eco-friendly mega vessel, “OOCL Portugal,” during a ceremony at the Nantong COSCO KHI Ship Engineering (NACKS) shipyard.
This vessel is the final addition to OOCL’s series of 24,188 TEU ships, marking a significant milestone for the company.
Laura Liang Aron, Director of the Hong Kong Economic and Trade Office in Shanghai, was invited to name the vessel, with Ni Zhao, Regional Head (Shanghai) of the Hong Kong Shipping Registry, also attending as a special guest.
The ceremony was well-attended by distinguished guests, customers, and business partners, celebrating the successful completion of this major project for OOCL.
“The naming of our last 24,188 TEU new vessel marks an important milestone in the development of OOCL. The delivery of this series of mega vessels not only optimized the operational safety of vessels but also provided us with the advantages of energy efficiency and economies of scale, allowing OOCL to provide better and greener services to enhance our competitiveness in the face of future challenges,” stated Michael Xu, Director and Member of the Executive Committee of OOCL.
